Boca Raton mortgage agent pleads guilty in fraud scheme

Peter Hartofilis, a former branch manager of the TopDot Mortgage office in Boca Raton, has pleaded guilty on charges of conspircy to commit mail and wire fraud, and mail fraud, in connection with a year-and-a-half-long mortgage application scam, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida. Hartofilis, along with fellow branch manager Jason Vitulano, allegedly submitted fraudulent loan applications to lenders, which contained grossly exaggerated statements on the applicants’ earnings and assets. Vitulano also pleaded guilty. The defendants face up to 30 years behind bars on each of the counts against them, according to the US Attorney’s office. TRD
