With construction set to begin this summer on the first stages of the South Bronx Greenway, more details of the neighborhood improvement initiative have emerged. Among the upgrades planned are 12 acres of waterfront space opened up and 8.5 miles of so-called “green streets” that will feature heightened pedestrian and bicyclist safety measures, including mandatory no-truck-route regulations. Also in the works is a bicycle path connector between the South Bronx and Manhattan through Randall’s Island, set to begin construction next fall. [StreetsBlog]
