The 40-year old buildings in Overtown’s Town Park condos and co-ops are
in dire need of repairs, but residents cannot afford the special
assessments to make them. The project, which was built in 1970 by the
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is a nine-acre,
low-rise complex. Overtown residents spoke with city and county
officials at a meeting last week to discuss financing options to help
with the repairs, which include structural problems. Overtown also saw
the groundbreaking of The Beacon, a new affordable housing tower on NW 1st Avenue earlier in the week. [Miami Herald]
