Three “straw buyers,” along with an attorney and a title agent were
arrested in Broward County, according to state officials. The three
were arrested as part of an alleged $2 million mortgage fraud scheme.
According to the Florida Office of Financial Regulation’s Bureau of
Financial Investigations, the five people are now at Broward County
Jail, facing first-degree grand theft charges. The scheme included
three foreclosed properties in Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors and Coral
Springs. Such “straw buyers” were part of a problem federal prosecutor
Joan Silverstein talked about in her interview with The Real Deal on Friday. [Miami Herald]
