Armin and Lisa Seifart, the plaintiffs in the country’s first jury
trial over Chinese drywall, paid $1.6 million cash for a five-bedroom,
five-bathroom house with a backyard that reminded of Lisa Seifart’s
native Jamaica. The couple was so concerned about drywall problems and
their potential health effects on their young sons that they moved out
just 24 hours after finding out about the existence of the drywall.
Supplier Banner has conceded the drywall is defective, but does not
wish to pay damages greater than the cost of the remediation and of
having to find provisional housing. [Miami Herald]
