A proposed mixed-use development for Wisteria Island, a 21-acre uninhabited piece of land off Key West, has been tabled by the Monroe County Commission until the city of Key West makes an official recommendation. The county’s Planning Commission approved a proposal last week for a 75-unit development with a bar and restaurant. If it ultimately gets the go-ahead from the County Commission, the plans would need to then gain the approval of the Department of Community Affairs. The department has already expressed concern about the project’s density and with running utilities out to Wisteria Island, which is also known as Christmas Tree Island and is located in unincorporated Monroe County.
