Behind on utilities, Margate condo owners make payment to postpone eviction

Dozens of homeowners in the Atlantic Palms condo in Margate paid off their collective $3,500 water bill and staved off eviction — for now. Residents of the complex, at 400 NW 65th Avenue, are still behind on $15,000 in garbage and water bills and had faced a Friday eviction deadline before the latest payment. More than 60 of the 76 units there are in foreclosure, and the homeowners association is consequently having trouble keeping up with the payments. The next utility bill is due July 11. The city has been helping homeowners there for nearly a year by lowering fees and making other arrangements, and commissioners are expect to take up the issue later this month. [Sun Sentinel]
