Free parking for green drivers

Starting next month, fuel efficient car owners in Hollywood won’t have to carry around loose change anymore. A pilot program aimed at encouraging the use of energy saving cars will allow owners of so-called “green” automobiles to park for free in designated areas — even at parking meters. Drivers who register with the program, which is set to run through Oct. 1, 2011, also have the option to use the high-occupancy vehicle lane without penalty. [CBS]
