The largest homes in Broward County

Michelle Farber Ross is the listing agent for the largest home in Broward County, 3305 Fairfield Lane in Weston

While Broward County’s largest homes pale in comparison to the grand
estates of Palm Beach, the middle county of South Florida still boasts
some high-priced, super-sized homes of its own.

The
largest home in Broward County is 3305 Fairfield Lane in Weston,
according to data from PropertyShark. And in addition to being the
largest, it also happens to be on the market for $16.5 million. The
property is owned by Richard Nilsen, who built the company Mattress
Giant.

Listing agent Michelle Farber Ross of Waterfront
Properties and Club Communities said Nilsen built the house for himself
and his wife to reside in, but during construction they moved to
Tallahassee.

“It is basically a never-lived-in house,” she said.

She
added: “The development is in Windmill Ranch estates, which is the most
exclusive development in Weston, and probably in West Broward.”

Also
in Windmill Ranch are 3410 Stallion Lane, the third-ranked home on the
list, and 3420 Stallion Lane, which is the fifth-biggest home in
Broward County.

Windmill Ranch has another home that, while
not quite large enough to make the list, has a notable resident: Miami
Dolphins Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, who is currently listing
his home at 3415 Stallion Lane for $12 million.

Nilsen’s home,
3305 Fairfield Lane, is on approximately 3.5 acres, and includes a
6,000-square-foot great room, along with two pools and more than 8,000
square feet of covered patio space.

“Everything in this house is on a large scale,” Ross said.

Second
on the list is 709 Idlewyld Drive in Fort Lauderdale, a three-story,
22,674-square-foot home in Las Olas Isles. It was built in 2001 and had
a property tax hit of $156,080 as of 2008, according to
Blockshopper.com.

The fourth-ranked home has another Dolphins
connection, with the 21,057-square-foot home belonging to H. Wayne
Huizenga, the former majority owner of the Dolphins (he still owns a
small stake), along with formerly owning both the Florida Marlins and
the Florida Panthers hockey team.

Ross said the homes on
Hillsboro Mile, which include the seventh-largest home in Broward
County, are notable for being oceanfront properties that also have
dockage on the Intracoastal. The home at 927 Hillsboro Mile in
Hillsboro Beach is 19,788 square feet.

None of the homes on
the list, however, would make the top 10 largest homes in Palm Beach
County, although Nilsen’s home is larger than any home in Miami-Dade
County.  (To see a list of the largest homes in Palm Beach County,
