Stalled Miami Springs library rehab project back on track

Miami Springs’ library branch, which has been closed for renovations
since April 2007, is finally back on track to reopen this Winter. The
remodeling project was the victim of inopportune timing: just as the
library shuttered, the economy tanked and work stalled, although other
Miami-Dade County projects did move ahead. Last year, the contractor
was fired from the job for “poor performance” and Trintec Construction
has now been hired to finish what was started within 120 days,
according to Victoria Galan, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Public
Library System. The county will then be expected to build out the
branch within an additional 90 days. Among the improvements to the
space are hurricane impact windows, ADA-compliant restrooms and a
larger parking lot. [River City Gazette via Miami Herald]
