Jacksonville-based supermarket chain Winn-Dixie plans to close 30 of its 514 stores by September 2011, the company announced yesterday. While Winn-Dixie did not say which stores are slated for the chopping block, it currently operates stores in Florida, George, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Winn-Dixie cited poor economic conditions as a reason for the closures, and said it expects to cut 120 jobs. Once the workers being eliminated are notified, the company plans to announce the individual store closures. [Florida Times-Union via Sun Sentinel]
