Publix’s plan
for a larger, modern store
was unanimously approved yesterday by
the Palm Beach Town Council, with 12 variances and a special exception
use winning broad support. There is one more zoning hurdle, the site
plan review, necessary because of changes to the parking configuration at the
site. The 40-year-old store will close in April, when construction on a
44,000-square-foot replacement will begin. The council urged, although
it did not require, that Publix lease space somewhere else in the town
on a temporary basis as it is the town’s lone supermarket. [Palm
