The Bal Harbour Square shopping center in Fort Lauderdale, located at 1700 North Federal Highway, lost several retailers from 2007 to 2009, including Rag Shop, Bombay and Company, Pier 1 Kids, Linens ‘N Things and Circuit City. The 150,000-square-foot center was down to about 40 percent occupancy. Now, a redevelopment plan has helped clinch deals with new prospects. Retail Property Group, which owns the center, put in between $8 and $10 million on improvements, including parking, lighting and structural changes. By mid-2011, the group expects 100 percent occupancy. [Sun Sentinel]
