Carrfour Supportive Housing of Miami will be receiving the National
Trust’s Preservation Honor Award on Friday for its work in restoring the
Royalton Hotel in downtown Miami. The hotel, which was built in 1923 in
the classic revivalist style, had declined into a low-rent hotel by the
1990s. “We chose this location because we wanted to have a significant
impact on the number of homeless individuals living on the streets of
downtown Miami,” said Stephanie Berman, president and CEO of the
organization. Developer Carlisle will be a co-recipient of the award.
The two affordable housing companies have been leading a wave of new
projects across
South Florida
, including one that involves using gardens
at affordable projects to produce organic fruits and vegetables
for
high-end restaurants and hotels. TRD
