The city of Deerfield Beach has just received a 50-acre land donation from the shuttered Tam O’Shanter Golf Course under a Broward County land-use policy that allows owners of troubled golf courses to find new uses for their properties. The owner of the 98-acre course agreed to hand over the eastern half of the property to the city in exchange for commissioners’ approval to turn the rest into a cemetery and memorial park. The donation, which is contingent on approvals for the adjacent memorial park, will double Deerfield Beach’s currently limited space for athletic fields. [Sun Sentinel]
