Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina announced yesterday that Hialeah Park has been approved for slot machines by the Florida Gaming Commission. “Hialeah Park has received from the State of Florida their slot license,” Robaina said. After being closed from 2001 to 2009, the track has been hosting quarterhorse racing, but the addition of the machines is expected to add the necessary revenue to sustain it. The owners plan to install a 9,000-square-foot luxury casino at the track a year from now, with plans for card rooms and 800 slot machines. [Just News]
