Family Dollar is rolling out a new, cleaner layout for two expansion locations in Fort Lauderdale as the chain unveils its new store design. There will also be more than 500 new items in the stores, including expanded grocery. “We’re carrying the same well-known brands as the national supermarket and drugstore chains — and we’re pricing them lower,” said chairman and CEO Howard Levine in a statement. “We’re now stocking a broader selection than before.” The company, which is part of the Fortune 500, said it’s seen an increase in sales in the downturn.
