The more than $1 billion secured by Florida in federal funding will now
become available to homeowners, with thousands expected to receive up to
a year and a half of mortgage payments. Applications for the Hardest
Hit program begin next month, with Lee County homeowners able to ask for
funding in the fall as a test of the program. The money can be used to
make loan payments for up to 18 months and make delinquent loans
current. “We believe between the two strategies we can help about 20,000
people,” said Cecka Rose Green, communications director for the Florida
Housing Finance Corporation, which is heading the program.
