More Stern workers laid off

DJS processing, a subsidiary of the David J. Stern law firm, fired 90
employees yesterday, meaning almost 800 workers at Stern’s firm and
related companies have been laid off. Jeffrey Tew, the lawyer
representing Stern, confirmed the layoffs but would not comment further.
According to Tew, DJSP has a service contract with Stern’s firm, and
involves the non-legal arm of the business. There are already questions
as to whether the 96 total layoffs constitute a “mass layoff,” and
whether proper notices were given to employees. “You’re supposed to give
much more than a one-day notice,” said attorney Steve Jaffe, which
filed a class action lawsuit against the firm. [Palm
