Foreclosure firm challenges probe

The attorney for Shapiro & Fishman, a foreclosure law firm, told a
Florida appeals court that the Florida Attorney General’s Office has no
right to investigate lawyers under the auspices of looking at unfair and
deceptive trade practices — rather, the Florida Bar is the only entity
that can check on lawyers. “This is a misuse of power,” Shapiro &
Fishman’s attorney, Gerald Richman, argued. The Attorney General’s
Office argued that it had that right, including the right to issue
subpoenas for records. Shapiro & Fishman recently
added a new partner
to the firm. [Sun
