Embattled attorney David Stern is shuttering the foreclosure practice of his Plantation-based law firm amid an investigation by the Florida attorney general’s office. According to a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission this morning, the Law Offices of David J. Stern, the main customer of publicly-traded DJSP Enterprises, will cease its foreclosure law operations in the state March 31. Although foreclosures comprise most of Stern’s caseload, an attorney representing the firm, which was fired by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac last year, said it the offices are not shutting down altogether and that there has been no settlement with the Attorney General’s office. The company has laid off hundreds of employees since Fannie and Freddie terminated their relationships, prompting a class-action lawsuit in December in which a group of former employees accused Stern of violating the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
