Fort Lauderdale hotel could see new life

A former Howard Johnson’s hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach could see new
life as a three-to-four star hotel, if Miami-based Transacta Prive
Development has its way. The company, which has received funding from
European investors, is considering a renovation of the hotel that would
mean an 18-story, 320-room tower. The project is contingent upon
receiving the proper approvals from the city. The hotels owners paid
$20.6 million in 2005 for the property with intentions for a high-end
hotel, even considering the Peninsula to manage what would have been a
20-floor hotel with 340 rooms and prices as high as $600 per night. [Sun
