State officials warn against fake foreclosure assistance website

A website mimicking a state-run foreclosure prevention site has cropped up, Florida officials say. The site, floridahardesthithelp.org, is a copycat of Florida’s Hardest Hit Fund, experts say, a legitimate program that is funneling more than $1 billion in state funds for foreclosure assistance (that site is flhardesthithelp.org). Although it was not immediately clear how many homeowners have fallen victim to the fake foreclosure help site, state officials are encouraging mortgage holders to exercise extreme caution when seeking foreclosure prevention help.
