Upscale hotel segment jumps

The upper-upscale hotel segment was the top performing hotel category
last week, according to data from travel research firm STR. The
upper-end category saw its occupancy rise 9.2 percent last week, up to
74.8 percent nationally, with an increase in the average daily room rate
to $150.33. Revenue per available room also rose to $112.39. The
overall occupancy rate for the U.S. hotel industry was up 4.8 percent to
62 percent, with the average national daily room rate up to $101.22. TRD
