Work begins on new Lake Worth boardwalk

Construction has begun on a new $2 million waterfront boardwalk project in Lake Worth, near the Snook Islands Natural Area, that involved demolishing the remaining pieces of the Lake Avenue Bridge. The project, which is slated for completion in January, includes a 580-foot fishing pier, water taxi stop and a floating kayak launch in addition to the 545-foot boardwalk. Palm Beach County is funding much of the work, with the Florida Inland Navigation District and Metropolitan Planning Organization also pitching in. The boardwalk will provide access to and information about the $16.5 million Snook Islands habitat restoration project, which wrapped up in 2005. [Palm Beach Post]
