Burlington Coat Factory is moving into the shuttering Kmart in Royal Palm Beach space as part of a nationwide expansion plan for 20 to 25 new stores, which also includes a new outpost in the former Home Depot space at Pine Island Ridge Plaza in Davie. The discount retailer is also hunting out additional South Florida spaces in the 70,000- to 80,000-square-foot range, according to Michael Shanahan, vice president of real estate for Burlington. The company, which currently has 26 Florida stores, has tapped Atlantic Retail Properties to lead the search, and is mostly seeking out former Kmart, Target and failed department store spaces, ideally in regional and strip malls, Shanahan said.
