Americans who have come to enjoy the habit of grabbing their morning paper and seeing developer Donald Trump in the headlines are in for a rude awakening. Following months of public flirtation with a run for the presidency, Trump announced that he won’t seek the Republican nomination at an NBC Network event today. “This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country,” Trump said in a statement. “I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half-heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.” The unofficial campaigning included taking the driver’s seat of the birther bandwagon, discussions as to how much The Donald is truly worth, and most recently, investigations into anti-Trump lawsuits that had the real estate mogul calling the New York Times “disgraceful.” [CNN]
