As you’ve probably heard, Donald Trump announced last week that he would not seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012, despite his “strong conviction” that he “would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election.” Then, a funny thing happened: the media finally began to turn its attention away from The Donald and toward more compelling storylines, like Arnold Schwarzenegger’s alleged love child, Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s impending sexual assault trial, and the supposed end of the world. (Trump didn’t totally disappear from the headlines, of course, but they became decidedly more negative, as news broke of investigations into Trump University and into several of his name-branded condos.) What’s more, Season 11 of “Celebrity Apprentice” is now officially over. So what’s a media-addicted real estate mogul to do? Backtrack, obviously. “Who knows, stranger things have happened,” Trump told “Fox and Friends” this morning, referring to a potential return to the presidential race. “I can’t rule out anything.”
