Miami contractor sentenced to prison for false tax return

July 06, 2011 03:40PM

Miami contractor Reynaldo Orozco, owner of Rock Construction Builders in Miami Dade County, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $500,000 after pleading guilty to filing a false employment tax return, the South Florida Business Journal reported.

Orozco failed to inform the Internal Revenue Service of more than $3.2 million in cash wages, according to the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida.

Court documents say Orozco admitted that, between 2004 and 2007, he issued corporate checks to corporations, which were not legitimate subcontractors. He then proceeded to cash the checks himself to pay his employees. [SFBJ]
