Boca owner wins $400,000 for faulty repairs by condo president

Don Nadick, a condominium owner in Boca Raton, has won a $400,000
judgment against his condo board president for faulty repairs. Richard
Pettoni, the president of the building, was an unlicensed contractor
performing work for Nadick and, the lawsuit alleges, charged triple what
he was paying to his subcontractors. “I trusted him; he was the
president of the building,” Nadick said. There is no law that actually
prohibits board members from soliciting or entering into business
relationships with their neighbors. “The vast majority of people serving
on boards have their community’s interest at heart,” said Lisa Magill,
an attorney with Becker & Poliakoff in South Florida. “But it’s
possible that people will use that position of trust and authority to
their advantage.” [Sun
