FHFA protects Fannie Mae internal foreclosure investigation from public eye

September 26, 2011 04:31PM

Last week, the Federal Housing Finance Agency released a report that said Fannie Mae was aware its lawyers were sacrificing accuracy for speed when filing foreclosures thanks to a 2006 internal investigation it outsourced to an independent team of attorneys.

Today, the Palm Beach Post said it tried to get its hands on the 2006 Fannie Mae investigation, but was told by the FHFA that it’s not public information. At the time, the investigation found that Fannie Mae attorneys were especially negligent in Florida foreclosure cases. Since the Florida Attorney General’s office began investigating foreclosure attorneys last year, action has only been taken against the Law Offices of Marshall C. Watson. [Palm Beach Post]
