Bringing Wynwood to its roots

Larry Mizrach has helped make Wynwood into what some call the Soho of
the South, more than six decades after first arriving in the Miami
neighborhood. It’s all part of a revitalization for a neighborhood that
long ago was s similar magnet for enterprise. “Nabisco, Coca-Cola, RC
Cola, all of the big postwar companies played on the Beach, and rushed
across the rail tracks to Wynwood to build factories and warehouses in
the architectural style of the day,” Mizrach said. “Now we have more
than 100 art galleries.” Wynwood has become a 15,000-person
“supervillage” of artists lofts, restaurants and names like the Rubell
Family gallery. “It’s great,” he said. “Makes me feel 40 years younger.”
