South Florida residents Jinnie Mathurin of Coral Springs and Guhier
Florvilus of Sunrise have pleaded guilty to their roles in a
multi-million dollar mortgage fraud scheme, according to U.S. Attorney
for the Southern District of Florida Wifredo Ferrer. Florvilus
previously pled guilty to wire fraud in connection with a mortgage fraud
scheme. Both will be sentenced in 2012. The two had been charged with
fraudulently causing Broward County properties to be bought and sold
through straw buyers, who would obtain high-value mortgages based upon
fraudulent loan applications. Based on their actions, lenders issued
approximately $2.8 million in loans to the defendants and others. — Alexander Britell
