The Palm Beach Landmarks Preservation Commission will hold a hearing as
to whether the historic Royal Poinciana Playhouse is effectively being
torn down by neglect, according to the Palm Beach Daily News. Member
William Cooley has been urging the hearing on the issue, although he had
also sought to hold talks on a town agreement requiring the property’s
owner to operate a performing arts theater on the site. The two issues
are linked, however, he said. “I think it has to be viewed in its
entirety,” Cooley said. Town attorney John Randolph said the issue of
the building’s proper use was one for the Town Council, not the
landmarks board. [Palm
