If Trader Joe’s comes to West Palm Beach, West Palm Beach would become Trader Joe’s.
So desparate are West Palm Beach city commissioners for the discount grocer to continue its South Florida expansion to their city that a 24-hour name change is just one of the measures they’re considering to lure Trader Joe’s, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
The commissioners believe the grocer would be a boon to downtown retail traffic, and say the 6,000 residents and estimated 100,000 people that populate the area on a busy workday would in turn benefit Trader Joe’s.
Trader Joe’s has 365 stores in 31 states and is expanding in Florida, with its first South Florida location opening in Naples.
In an effort to make West Palm Beach the store’s next destination, the Downtown Development Authority is launching a marketing campaign that films city icons saying what they would “trade” for a Trader Joe’s. [Sun-Sentinel]
