New Midtown Miami developers wage war against proposed Walmart

Midtown Miami’s newest stakeholder is launching a fight against the area’s planned Walmart, Beached Miami reported. Midtown Opportunities, which acquired 22 acres in Midtown Miami last December, has commissioned law firm Holland and Knight to help it convince the City of Miami to reject zoning changes needed for a potential Walmart, along NW 31st Street off NE First Avenue. The site is being developed by Diversified Development Realty.

Midtown Opportunities’ case rests on the requirement that sidewalks in the Midtown Miami District have a minimum of 10 inches of unobstructed space for pedestrians. Holland and Knight wrote a letter to City Planning Director Francisco Garcia claiming that Walmart’s plan for an entrance to the 600-space parking garage would violate that requirement.

If Garcia rejects the proposal, Walmart’s plan would be subject to additional review. [Beached Miami via Miami Herald]
