Trump Jr draws PETA fire for hunting trip

Confronting criticism head-on seems to run in the Trump family’s blood, as Donald Trump Jr. has batted away criticism from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals over the photos that emerged this week showing him with animals he hunted on a safari in Zimbabwe.

The Huffington Post reported that PETA released a statement criticizing Donald Trump Jr. and his brother, Eric, for their exploits. “If the young Trumps are looking for a thrill, perhaps they should consider skydiving, bungee jumping, or even following in their anti-hunting father’s footsteps and taking down competing businesses — not wild animals,” the statement read.

Of course, using The Donald as a model for good behavior is something of an interesting choice for an organization that typically aligns itself with environmental groups. The elder Trump regularly slams green construction and catches heat for the harm his golf course impart on the environment.

Trump Jr. responded to complaints by PETA and other anti-hunters on Twitter by saying he “makes no apologies” for his recreational activity and noted that meat did not go to waste as it was consumed by “the villagers.”

He later used the rationale that without the costly fees hunting enthusiasts pay to practice the sport in Africa, the continent would be far worse off. [HuffPo]
