Mixed-use development pushing out local seniors, critics say

A developer attempting to build 348  rental units and commercial spaces at the Whitehaven Seniors Adult Park mobile home community is facing criticism from the park’s elderly residents, according to the Palm Beach Post. The seniors’ trailer park sits on a section of the 29 acres awaiting local government land-use, zoning and site-plan applications approval, and many of the park’s residents say they cannot afford the physical or financial costs of a move.

“It’s going to be a nightmare,” said Whitehaven resident Richard Sage, 76. “To uproot me at this point and put me topsy-turvy – I’m not in that position.” The developer has sought to alleviate the seniors’ concerns by arranging for Lakeshore Communities, a national operator of manufactured home communities, to accept the Whitehaven residents.
