Stand-Up Florida is organizing community activists and even some shareholders to protest Florida Power and Light’s parent company NextEra Energy at their annual meeting in Juno Beach Friday morning, the Sun Sentinel reported. The protest comes after a nuclear reactor expansion went $600 million over its estimated cost, spurring the company to increase its base rate by $690 million. According to Stand-Up Florida spokesperson Gayle Faath, the company is showing big profits and pays no federal taxes, making the rate increase unjustifiable. [Sun Sentinel]
