El Portal is considering purchasing the troubled 15-acre Little Farm Trailer Park, the Miami Herald reported. The park, which is home to more than 1,000 residents, is plagued by code violations — from inadequate sewage systems to improper electrical line connections. The city has already assessed $6.3 million in liens.
“We are researching our options to bring the property into compliance and deal with the life, health and safety issues that exist on the property,” said Jason Walker, El Portal’s village manager.
Mayor Daisy Black is concerned that the government would lose out on the deal, however. Last year, the land’s assessed value was more than $1.4 million, despite an asking price of $15 million. “If we can get a venture capitalist to come, then that would be okay, because it is not our money. I don’t want us to go in debt,” she said. [Miami Herald]
