Miami’s emerging Wynwood area has received a $140,000 ArtPlace grant to go toward creating a Business Improvement District, the Miami Herald reported. ArtPlace is funded by the Knight Foundation and a number of art groups and federal agencies. “Art has been at the core of the revival of Wynwood,” said Matt Haggman, Miami program director for the Knight Foundation. “Art gives the area a sense of place and an identity, which serves as a catalyst for economic development.” Two other Miami-area facilities are receiving similar grants: the Light Box at Goldman Warehouse, also in Wynwood, and the Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach.
