The Real Deal has some exciting news to share this Monday: the publication has won five awards recognizing the best in real estate journalism. The National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) presents these awards annually at its spring conference, which took place this year June 20–23, in Denver.

For her February 2011 story, “Tumult at Nouvel Tower,” about allegations of corner-cutting at a residential tower designed by architect Jean Nouvel, deputy managing editor Candace Taylor won first place in the “Best Trade Magazine Report for Residential/Mortgage/Finance or Homebuilding/Residential Development Industries.” In the same category, senior reporter Adam Pincus took second place for his November 2011 story “Reassessing REBNY,” which looked into the finances of the Real Estate Board of New York.

Pincus also won first place in the “Best Trade Magazine Report for the Commercial Real Estate Industry” category for his “Penciling out at 737 Park,” about Harry Macklowe’s Upper East Side purchase at that address. That story was published in May 2011. In addition, The Real Deal won first place in the category “Best Web Site Solely Devoted to Residential, Financial and/or Commercial Real Estate or Home Design.” And for the second year in a row, the publication took top honors for “Best Commercial Trade Magazine.”

At last year’s spring conference, Sarah Ryley, a former reporter for The Real Deal, won for best commercial real estate story by a trade magazine for “A Century of Booms and Busts.” That article was published in July 2010.

NAREE is an 83-year-old professional organization, committed to journalism in the areas of real estate, design, and green building. TRD
