Temple Emanu-El will petition the Palm Beach Town Council for a zoning exemption allowing it to use a recently acquired 23,200-square-foot adjacent lot for services and other events, the Palm Beach Daily News reported. The synagogue has been accused of doubling its seating capacity throughout the 1990s without first obtaining the required permission from the town. Neighbors are concerned about the impact of increased traffic and noise, and brought the capacity violation to the town’s attention. “The town staff is thoroughly reviewing the development records in order to speak definitively to this matter,” Peter Elwell, town manager, said. Temple Emanu-El is located at 190 North County Road. [PBDY]
