Greenacres councilman brings foreclosure registration fees to agenda, again

Greenacres’ City Council will consider a foreclosure registration program proposed by Councilman Jonathan Pearce today, according to the Palm Beach Post. Pearce originally proposed the measure that would require banks to register foreclosed properties and pay an annual fee that the city would split with the Federal Property Registration Corporation in August 2010. At that time, the council rejected the idea due to concerns that the additional costs would be passed on to buyers. If passed, the program could generate $100,000 per year, and would improve code-enforcement staff’s ability to locate the parties responsible for a foreclosed home’s maintenance, supporters say. “Even though they’re registered, it’s like pulling teeth to get people out to take care of these properties,” said Kurt Eismann, director of the county’s code enforcement division. [Palm Beach Post]
