Boynton Beach locals fear renters

The Palm Beach County Commission gave approval yesterday to add additional rental units to the Toscana Isles neighborhood project, a move that left some Boynton Beach locals livid, the Palm Beach Post reported. Some residents who oppose apartments in their neighborhood claimed that rentals would become “crack houses” and would “rape the community.” Developer Ansca Homes wanted permission to increase the number of units in a three-story apartment complex on Hypoluxo Road near Military Trail from 161 to 206 planned. The total number of units in the complex will not change from 414 due to a reduction of 45 single-family units, however. “The fear of having people who don’t own the property is greater than the reality,” said Commissioner Burt Aaronson. “We have crime here in Palm Beach County. Crime occurs even in places where people own their own homes.” [Palm Beach Post] — Christopher Cameron
