Five years ago Ikea opened its first Florida store in Sunrise; now the Swedish retailer plans to open a Miami-Dade location next to Dolphin Mall by fall 2014, the Miami Herald reported. Ikea has submitted plans to the city of Sweetwater for a 417,000-square-foot store, making it the largest of Ikea’s four Florida locations. Pending approval, construction could begin by next spring.
“We’ve always known long-term we needed a store in Miami-Dade,” Joseph Roth, an Ikea spokesperson, said. “We were looking for the right site that would complement Sunrise. We wanted good access. We wanted good visibility.” [Miami Herald] – Christopher Cameron
