The $50 million Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Research, America’s largest coral reef research center, will open in Dania Sept. 27, Nova Southeastern University announced. The 86,000-square-foot facility is located in the John U. Lloyd Beach State Park. “The research center is critical for the environmental sustainability of coral reefs, which are the life blood of our region and oceans, and their ecosystems,” said NSU President George Hanbury II. The project was built in part through financing from the U.S. Department of Commerce. — Alexander Britell
