South Florida foreclosures up 34 percent from last year

There were 4,268 foreclosures filed in South Florida in September this year, according to Condo Vultures, a 34.2 percent increase from the same month a year ago. Slightly more than one third of the foreclosures, or 1,681 of them, came in Miami-Dade County — Broward County has traditionally lead South Florida in foreclosure filings. Broward County came in second with 1,641 foreclosures, compared to 1,100 in September 2011. Palm Beach County ranked third with 946, an increase in contrast to  the 886 filings it saw in the same month the previous year.

Overall, 35,646 foreclosures were filed in South Florida through the end of September, a 50.6 percent increase from the same period a year ago. Broward accounts for 43 percent of all those foreclosure, while Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties split the remaining foreclosures at 24.6 and 32.2 percent, respectively. — Christopher Cameron
