The Village of Palmetto Bay’s Village Hall, a combination police station, emergency operations center and administrative complex, has received LEED Platinum certification, according to a release from Miami-Dade County. The property is now the only facility of its kind to reach Platinum status, the highest level of certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which gives the ratings. Miami-Dade Commissioner Lynda Bell said it was a “an almost entirely self-sustaining facility.” “As such, it has set the example for other American leaders to strive to achieve the same green standards for their own government buildings,” she said. The facility is now equipped with solar panels, a 60,000-gallon rainwater collection system and energy-efficient lighting. – Alexander Britell
