Foreclosures up across South Florida

There were 5,162 foreclosures filed in South Florida in October, according to Condo Vultures, a 51.5 percent increase from the same month a year ago. More than one third of the foreclosures, or 2,304 of them, came in Miami-Dade County — leading the region for the second consecutive month. Broward County had 1,759 foreclosures, compared to 1,271 in October 2011. Palm Beach County ranked third with 1,099, an increase in contrast to the 757 filings it saw in the same month the previous year.

Overall, 40,808 foreclosures were filed in South Florida through the end of October, a 50.7 percent increase from the same period a year ago. Broward accounts for 42 percent of all those foreclosure year to date, while Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties split the remaining foreclosures at 24.1 and 33.7 percent, respectively. — Christopher Cameron
